I painted this outside at Beckwith's Orchard. The dahlia garden was in full bloom, right before the frost. The vase with flowers was painted in the studio.

One goal of trompe l'oeil painting is to depict objects with incredible detail. Life size representation creates a believable illusion. Carefully chosen objects can tell a story. This one is about the gravity of apples, a wedding garter, and love.
